Faith goes beyond feelings: Trusting God even when you feel alone — Part 1
It’s Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK (9th- 15th May 2022 ) and the theme coined by the Mental Health Foundation is loneliness.
I thought about loneliness in relation to faith and how at times one can feel as though God has left them alone, abandoned them, and to be honest with you not only is it a theme that runs throughout the Bible, it’s something that I’m sure a number of us can resonate with today, in these present times.
Throughout the Bible, we read recounts of where God’s children find themselves in predicaments where they feel as though God has left them. Whether that’s due to oppression (Israelites), childlessness (Hannah), health challenges (several people) enemies chasing after people (Elijah, not the Tindler Swindler lol) and even Jesus asked God why He was forsaken (Matthew 27:46).
I’m currently going through the book of Habakkuk with First 5 and using their devotional ‘Not According to Plan: How we can trust God even when He seems unfair or silent’, and what’s interesting to note is that Habakkuk, a prophet, felt as though God had abandoned His own and left them to the hands of their enemies.
